Ford VM Transit Gearbox Problems
Common Problems with VM Transit Gearboxes
VM Transit gearbox failures are commonly caused by low-quality internal components, especially the three front bearings on the main shaft. These bearings are known to collapse prematurely due to poor manufacturing quality.
Early diagnosis is essential. When these bearings begin to fail, they can cause serious damage to the main shaft and the 5th and 6th helical gear sets. If the issue is not identified in time, the gearbox may require a complete main shaft replacement, which is a far more expensive repair.
In 2011, Ford attempted to address this problem by introducing a replaceable main shaft sleeve and sourcing revised bearings from a European manufacturer. Unfortunately, these changes did not fully solve the issue, and failures still occur.
Our Proven Solution
At Smart Replacement Parts, our reconditioned VM Transit gearboxes are built to a higher standard for improved reliability and long-term performance.
Every gearbox is rebuilt using high-quality Japanese-made bearings, which offer significantly better durability than the original factory-fitted components.
To help maintain performance and minimise wear on internal components such as the synchro rings, we recommend using only fully synthetic 75W/90 transmission oil.
Warranty You Can Rely On
At Smart Replacement Parts, we stand behind the quality and reliability of our reconditioned parts. All reconditioned gearboxes are supplied with a 6-month parts and labour warranty for added confidence and peace of mind.
